For families protecting an aging parent
Your parent's information is likely already in criminal hands from one of the hundreds of data breaches in the last decade. The question isn't whether they're a target. It's whether they're protected. The protective steps exist. Most families just never get around to doing them. In one calm, guided Zoom session, I walk you and your parent through well-established safeguards, together, at your pace. Simple and safe.
No screenshare. No passwords shared. No data collected. I guide by voice - you do every step yourself.
The scams are getting harder to spot. AI can now clone voices. Data leaks put personal information in criminal hands every week. And the fraud rarely announces itself. It shows up months later as a ruined credit report, a stolen tax refund, medical bills for treatment that never happened, or utility accounts opened in your parent's name across the country.
The protective steps are scattered across multiple agency websites with confusing account setups most people never get through alone.
That's what this session is for.
AARP Scam Awareness Volunteer
This is guided assistance, like having a knowledgeable friend walk you through something unfamiliar on the phone. I talk each of you through implementing each safeguard, one step at a time, at your pace. You do everything yourselves on your own devices. I am the guide. You are in control.
Sessions run roughly 60 minutes for the Solo Plan, 90 minutes for the Duo Plan, and 2 hours for the Family Plan. I'll stay with you as long as it takes.
A freeze means no new credit can be opened in your name. No credit cards, no mortgages, no auto loans, until you personally unfreeze it. One of the most impactful steps families often overlook. We set up all three for each person on the call.
Most people freeze the big three and consider themselves done. Innovis is a fourth national credit bureau that some lenders and mortgage companies check, and leaving it open is an unnecessary gap. We close it for everyone on the call.
ChexSystems is used by banks and credit unions when you apply to open a new deposit account. NCTUE is used by telecom and utility providers when you apply for new phone or utility service. Freezing both is designed to prevent those accounts from being opened in your name without your consent. Most people have never heard of either. Most people aren't protected.
LexisNexis is used by lenders and service providers to verify identity when approving credit, loans, and services. Freezing it is designed to prevent those from being approved in your name without your consent. Done for everyone on the call.
A six-digit number known only to you and the IRS that prevents anyone else from filing a tax return using your Social Security number. The IRS rejects any return that doesn't include the correct PIN. We set it up live on your own IRS.gov account for each person on the call. Important note: the PIN renews every January, and we'll walk you through where to retrieve it each year.
We create or claim each my Social Security account and enable two protective blocks. The eServices block prevents anyone from viewing or changing your Social Security information online or by phone. The Direct Deposit Fraud Prevention block prevents anyone from changing your direct deposit or address information. Done for everyone on the call.
Two-factor authentication on the accounts that matter most. Scam-call blocking. A plain-English list of what to never click, what to never say on the phone, and what no legitimate organization will ever ask for.
A checklist of everything completed for each person, and what to revisit each year. No account data, no PINs, no sensitive information. Just a clear record that the work was done.
Pick a slot that works for everyone. You'll get a Zoom link and a short prep note. Nothing to install, nothing to do in advance.
Each person joins on their own device. No screenshare, ever. I cannot see anyone's screen at any point in the session.
I walk through each action by voice. Each person types, clicks, and completes everything on their own device. I never ask for passwords. I never ask to see documents. I never request access to any account. If a step is confusing, we slow down, re-read, and try again.
A written recap arrives after the session: what was completed for each person and what to check annually.
Privacy by design
Each person completes every action themselves, on their own device. I am the guide. You are in control. If anyone offering this type of service asks for any of the above, that person is the scam.
Most clients are in their 70s and 80s and have never done any of this before. The session is designed for that. We go slowly, repeat steps when needed, and no one is rushed. Having a family member on the call makes an enormous difference.
For the Duo and Family plans, yes. For the Solo plan, it's just you. If you're booking for a parent, I strongly recommend joining. Having someone familiar on the call makes the whole session easier for your parent. You'll also leave knowing exactly what was done and why.
No, and be skeptical of anyone who does. No service can promise that. What this session does is put well-established protective measures in place so that if someone tries, they face significantly more barriers. These are the same steps recommended by consumer protection authorities including the FTC. We just do all of them, together, in one sitting.
Good start, that's one step down. We'll confirm it's set up correctly across all four bureaus, make sure the PINs are accessible, and work through everything else. Most people who think they're covered have only done part of it.
Yes. There are additional secondary bureaus and opt-out registries that exist, and the landscape does evolve over time. This session covers well-established, widely recommended protective steps. We'll also leave you with a written summary of what was completed so you have a clear baseline to build from.
Coordination can be tricky. Reach out before booking and we'll figure out what works.
By credit card at booking. No payment information is collected during the session. You can reschedule up to 24 hours in advance.
